Kumano Jinja

Kumano Jinja, located in Okitsu Nakacho, Shimizu Ward, Shizuoka, is a venerable shrine that was invited from the three sacred mountains of Kumano in Kii. Kumano faith spread widely throughout Japan from ancient times, particularly attracting the devout faith of those engaged in maritime commerce and fishing. Okitsu was a post town on the Tokaido and part of Shimizu Port, a region where maritime commerce flourished, and Kumano Jinja has been beloved by local people as a deity for maritime safety and prosperous business. The Kumano deity is especially known as a god of guidance and resurrection, serving as a source of strength for those facing important life transitions and new beginnings.
