Myogi Jinja
History
Myogi Jinja is an ancient shrine situated on the slopes of Hakuun Peak, the main summit of Mount Myogi, and is said to have been founded during the reign of Emperor Senka as a sacred site of mountain worship. Enshrining Yamato Takeru and Sugawara no Michizane, the shrine has long been revered for the spiritual power of Mount Myogi, famous for its strange rocks and peculiar stone formations. A steep stone stairway leads from the outer gate to the main hall, and the path itself is a spiritual discipline. The main hall, built in the Gongen architectural style, features magnificent ornate decorations donated by Tokugawa Iemitsu. Within the mystical natural environment of Mount Myogi, many worshippers visit seeking spiritual training and good fortune, the shrine being particularly known for benefits of commercial prosperity and warding off misfortune.
