Zentsuji

Zentsuji is built at the birthplace of Kobo Daishi Kukai and is the seventy-fifth temple of the Shikoku Eighty-Eight Temple Pilgrimage. As one of the head temples of the Shingon school, it receives devout respect from believers nationwide. Tradition holds that Kukai himself founded it, and the name was given the meaning "a temple where good propagates." As the birthplace of Kobo Daishi, it is said to possess special spiritual efficacy, and many visitors come to this sacred site. The vast grounds, consisting of Eastern and Western compounds, preserve numerous important cultural properties, making it an extremely significant temple in Japanese Buddhist history.
