桜神宮

Tokyo 世田谷区 新町3丁目21−3

History

I have watched over this sacred Sakura Jingu since its founding in Meiji 15 (1882) in Kanda Imagawa-koji. This revered shrine was established with the noble purpose of reviving the ancient Shinto traditions that have been passed down since time immemorial, enshrining Amaterasu Omikami and the deities of Japanese mythology. In Taisho 4, divine guidance came to move westward, and from Taisho 8 to 11, the shrine buildings were relocated to the current location in Sakurashinmachi, Setagaya Ward. By following this divine will, the shrine was spared from both the Great Kanto Earthquake and the fires of World War II, earning deep reverence as a sanctuary for fire protection and disaster prevention. The worship ritual follows the ancient form of 'two bows, four claps, one bow,' truly preserving the precious ancient faith for the present day.
