History

Ryokai-zan Yokokura-ji is known as the first numbered temple of the Thirty-Three Sacred Sites of West Mino. It is said to have been founded by Saicho in the twentieth year of Enryaku (801), making it an esteemed ancient temple with more than a thousand years of history. Called the "Storehouse of Mino," it is known for housing numerous important cultural properties. Particularly renowned for the exceptional beauty of its autumn foliage, the brilliant crimson leaves that dye the temple grounds continue to captivate all who visit.
