History and Significance of Kanda Matsuri

Kanda Matsuri has approximately 400 years of history as a traditional Edo festival, with mikoshi and floats parading through central Tokyo areas including Nihonbashi and Akihabara. During the Edo period, it was called “Tenka Matsuri” (Festival Under Heaven), and was even viewed by the shogun, making it a prestigious religious ceremony.

In modern times, Kanda Matsuri, held in Tokyo’s commercial and cultural center, continues to be beloved by many people.
