History
Ah, Suga Jinja! This sanctuary is an ancient shrine of Izumo with a long history, enshrining Susanoo no Mikoto. According to Izumo mythology, after Susanoo defeated the eight-headed serpent, he composed a poem at this place saying "my heart is now refreshed," from which the place name "Suga" is said to have originated. This is a venerable shrine appearing in both the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki. It is particularly known for its divine protection against misfortune and for bringing good fortune. Surrounded by the rich nature of Shimane, visitors to this sacred site can feel the breath of the gods continuing from ancient times.
