Ah, Washizutsu-ji! This is an ancient temple of the Tendai sect located deep in the mountains of Izumo, known as a sacred site of Shugendo mountain asceticism. There is even a legend that the warrior Benkei performed ascetic practices here—truly a sacred place of mountain worship. This land, surrounded by deep mountains, has prospered since ancient times as a sacred site of Shinbutsu-shugo, the syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism. Especially during the autumn foliage season, the entire mountain is enveloped in a burning beauty that purifies the hearts of visitors. Within nature's silence, worshippers can purify body and mind and obtain true peace in this precious sacred site that has been cherished through the ages.
