History
Himizaki Jinja is enshrined at a scenic location overlooking the Sea of Japan and is a beautiful ancient shrine with vermillion-painted buildings. Enshrining both Amaterasu Ōmikami and Susanoo no Mikoto, it is famous as the "Hishizumi no Miya" (Shrine of the Setting Sun) for its worship of the sunset deity. The magnificent Gongen-style main hall was constructed under the order of Tokugawa Iemitsu, and its beauty is breathtaking. As a sacred site where one can worship the sunset over the Sea of Japan, many people have visited this spiritually efficacious shrine since ancient times.
