History
Iiya Jinja is an ancient shrine recorded in the Izumo Fudoki, and is a sacred site near the Yomotsu Hirasaka, considered an entrance to the land of Yomi (the underworld). Enshrining Izanagi no Mikoto as the deity, it is a precious shrine that conveys the mythological world of ancient Izumo to the present day. This place appearing in mythology has long been revered as a sacred location at the boundary between life and death.
