History

Byakko

Yaegaki Jinja enshrines the divine couple Susanoo no Mikoto and Inada Hime no Mikoto, and is renowned for matchmaking blessings. According to legend, these two deities, famous from the myth of slaying the Yamata no Orochi, nurtured their love in this place. The shrine is particularly famous for fortune-telling by mirror pond, where a coin-laden paper is floated on the water; the time and location where it sinks are said to indicate one's romantic fate. Those whose paper sinks quickly are said to have good fortune in romance nearby, while those whose paper sinks far away may meet someone from a distant place. Pilgrims from across the nation, including couples and those wishing for marriage, visit this sacred site of romantic fulfillment. Surrounded by beautiful nature, the grounds surely grant wishes for wonderful encounters.
