History
Itate Hyozu Jinja is an ancient shrine situated in Kajiki-cho, Aira City, Kagoshima Prefecture. As its valorous names "Itate" and "Hyozu" suggest, this shrine enshrines a kami with the character of a war deity. From ancient times it has gathered the deep faith of warriors and soldiers as a kami of martial fortune and victory in contests. The land of Kajiki is deeply colored by the samurai culture of the Satsuma domain, and this shrine too is closely linked to the region's history. Even today, many visitors come to this dependable kami, seeking aid at life's critical moments of contest.
