Sumiyoshi Jinja is enshrined at this place famous for the Ataka Barrier. The three Sumiyoshi deities, as sea gods, have long drawn the faith of sailors and fishermen. Located right beside the Ataka Barrier, the stage of the famous tale of Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Benkei's "Kanjin Chou," many travelers surely prayed here for safe passage.
