Hiroshima Toshogu is a venerable shrine dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu as its principal deity. Founded by the Asano clan, lords of Hiroshima during the Edo period, it was created out of respect for the Tokugawa shogunate and wishes for peace. Having survived the ravages of war, the present magnificent shrine building now welcomes many worshippers. Countless people continue to seek the blessings of Ieyasu's great achievements, praying for success and victory. The shrine truly stands as a guardian deity watching over the development of Hiroshima.
