Ryozenji is an ancient Tendai Buddhist temple in Okagawa, Oita City. Its mountain name is Hiraizan, and the principal image is an eleven-faced Kannon (Ekadashimukha). As the name "Ryozen" (Sacred Mountain) suggests, this site has long been revered as a sacred place of miraculous spiritual power. The eleven-faced Kannon, believed to watch over all directions simultaneously and save beings from every form of suffering, has been deeply venerated here. In these precincts blessed with mountain energy and clear water, many practitioners and pilgrims have purified themselves and sought the compassion of Kannon. The temple continues to offer peace and solace, upheld by the faith of the local community.
