History

Byakko

Founded in the late Heian period, Fukeiji is known as the oldest wooden structure in Kyushu. Enshrining Amida Nyorai as its principal deity, its beautiful Amida Hall is designated as a national treasure. As a central temple of Rokugomanzam, it flourished as a place where many ascetic practitioners undertook their training. In autumn, it is enveloped in magnificent crimson foliage, presenting a beauty like the Pure Land itself. As an unchanging place of prayer since ancient Heian times, it continues to soothe the hearts of many people.
