History

Byakko

Sanada Jinja enshrines three generations of the Sengoku warlord Sanada: Sanada Masayuki, Sanada Yukimura, and Sanada Nobuyuki. Positioned at a corner of the Ueda Castle ruins, it speaks to the history of being the seat of the Sanada clan. The shrine is renowned as the site of the Ueda battles, where the Sanada family twice repelled the vast armies of the Tokugawa, attracting many visitors who honor the wisdom and courage of the Sanada house. It is particularly beloved by those who wish to cultivate courage in facing adversity and deepen family bonds. Within the shrine grounds stands the Sanada Stone, a large rock that visitors touch to receive the blessings of the Sanada family's great fortune.
