History
Zenkō-ji is an ancient temple with a history spanning fourteen hundred years, enshrining the "Ichikō Sanzun Amida Buddha" as its principal deity. With the phrase "Zenkō-ji pilgrimage" in common parlance, it has long been a sacred site of Shinano visited by countless pilgrims. A spirit of tolerance that welcomes all people, regardless of religious sect, is deeply rooted here, and the shrine is also known through the anecdote "Led by an ox to Zenkō-ji pilgrimage." The main hall is designated a National Treasure, and its solemn appearance purifies the hearts of all who visit.
