History
Renjoji is an ancient temple located in Tashio Fukinoura, Bungo-Taketa City. The Tashio district is one of the center regions of Rokugo Manzan Buddhist culture on the Kunisaki Peninsula, where many temples were built from the Heian period onward and Buddhist culture flourished. Renjoji is one of these historic temples and has gathered the faith of local people. In Buddhism, the lotus flower is a symbol of purity, blooming beautifully from within mud. The name of Renjoji carries the wish that visitors' hearts will be purified and they will walk a life as beautiful as a blossoming flower. It is a temple where one can worship in quiet peace amid the rich nature of Tashio.
