History

Suifukuji, built in Kaji-ya-cho, Nagasaki, is a famous ancient temple known as a Zen Buddhist temple of Chinese origin. Opened by a Chinese Buddhist priest in the early Edo period, it is also a precious temple that speaks to Nagasaki's international history. This temple, known for its red gate, has captivated many people through its architecture, which beautifully merges Chinese and Japanese cultures. True to Nagasaki's character as a place of active foreign exchange, it is one of the temples most representative of Nagasaki, having harmonized Japanese faith while accepting foreign cultures. Its solemn atmosphere brings a profound sense of stillness to the hearts of visitors.
