History

Byakko

Here by the Bungo sea stands Hiji Wakamiya Hachiman Shrine, whose ancient tale I shall tell. Since the Nara period, a divine spirit was invited from the revered Usa Jingu to reside in this sacred place. As the guardian deity of Hiji Domain, it was deeply venerated by successive lords while watching over the people's peace. The name 'Wakamiya' embodies eternal wishes for youthful vitality and prosperity, its divine power flowing through generations. Upon the sacred path, rare guardian monkeys stand watch—ancient symbols of protection and good fortune in relationships. Should you encounter them, offer your heartfelt prayers. In this hallowed ground, feel the ancient spirit and receive new strength. I too shall watch over your sacred journey.
