Okunitama Shrine, affectionately called Okuniissan by locals, is located in Kunisu, Kinokawa City, Wakayama Prefecture. The enshrined deity is Okuninushi-no-Okami, widely venerated as the god of nation-building, matchmaking, and healing. The shrine is deeply rooted in the fertile Kinokawa River basin, where agriculture has flourished since ancient times, drawing the devoted faith of people praying for abundant harvests. During the Edo period, it was revered as the chief guardian shrine under the protection of the Kishu Domain, and in the Meiji era it was designated a village shrine. Today, various festivals are held throughout the year, and the shrine continues to stand beside the lives of the local community as their protective deity.
