History
Shinkawa Koutai Jinja is a shrine located in Shinkawa, Kita Ward of Sapporo. From the name "Koutai Jinja," one can understand that it enshrines Amaterasu Ōmikami, the principal kami of the Ise Shrine. During the Hokkaido development era, people who had left their homeland welcomed the great kami of Ise to this place as spiritual support. True to the name Shinkawa, this shrine in a land blessed with pure water carries the wishes and prayers of the pioneers. As the protective kami of the region and as a separate branch spirit of Japan's supreme tutelary kami, it is revered by many people.
