History

Byakko

Hiyoshi Jinja, affectionately known as Sanno-san, is located in Imaichi-cho, Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture. The enshrined deities are Onamuji no Mikoto and Oyamazui no Mikoto. It is believed that the shrine was established through the invitation of Sanno Gongen by Koun-zan Bussho-ji, a large Tendai Buddhist temple that once stood nearby. A roof plaque from 1449 (Houtoku 1) records the name Sanno-sha, confirming that the shrine already existed by the mid-15th century. Renamed Hiyoshi Jinja in 1871 and designated a village shrine, it continues to be venerated as the local guardian deity of Imaichi.
