Hio Hiume Jinja is an ancient shrine enshrined in Himei, Beppu City, dedicated to the deities of fire. Beppu is a land famous for hot springs, and since ancient times, the blessings of geothermal heat and hot springs have been revered as the protection of the fire deity. The shrine enshrines Honoo no Kami and Honome no Kami, the fire deities, and faith in protection from fire disasters and gratitude for the blessings of hot springs is deeply rooted. Fire is an essential and precious element of daily life, yet it can also bring calamity. At this shrine, people have long prayed to properly handle fire, receive its blessings, and be protected from its harms. It is a precious shrine that conveys to this day a faith unique to this land, nurtured by Beppu's geothermal energy.
