History
Eimei-ji is a Soto Zen temple located in Tsuwano, Shimane Prefecture, with the temple name Kakuo-zan (Enlightened Emperor Mountain). Founded in 1420 (Oei 27) by Tsuwano domain lord Yoshimi Yorihiro, with Gekiin as the founding priest, the temple has stood for over six centuries. It flourished during the Edo period as the family temple (bodaiji) of successive lords of the Tsuwano domain. Nestled among Tsuwano's historic townscape, Eimei-ji continues to serve as a place of memorial services and spiritual solace.
