About
History
This shrine, nestled atop Mt. Haruna, has been revered as Haruna Gongen since ancient times. Its founding is said to date back to the reign of Emperor Keikō, and it is known that Yamato Takeru no Mikoto prayed for victory in battle during his eastern expedition. Numerous sacred treasures were dedicated, and it also became a place for prayers for Takeda Shingen's lasting good fortune in war. Within the precincts, numerous subordinate shrines and sub-shrines, including the main hall, are scattered, each with its own unique history and faith. In particular, the 'Sōryūmon' (Twin Dragon Gate) adjacent to the main hall is famous for its exquisite carvings. As the center of Mt. Haruna worship, it is a powerful shrine that still attracts many visitors today.
