History

Byakko

Katori Jingu is a celebrated shrine of over two thousand years of glorious history, enshrining Futsunushi no Okami as the First Shrine of Shimousa. Standing in pair with Kashima Jingu of Ibaraki, it has served as a cornerstone for protecting the Eastern Provinces and has been deeply revered by the imperial court. Gathering the faith of warriors as a god of martial arts and victory, visits from those in kendo and martial arts continue unabated in modern times. The vast grounds contain sacred trees with thousand-year lifespans and important cultural properties including a tower gate, truly allowing visitors to feel the solemnity of a sacred domain.
