Kachihara Hachiman Guu, enshrined in Yawata, Oita, is a distinguished shrine long revered as the head shrine of Bungo Province. According to tradition, it was founded when kami were invited from Usa Jingu during the Heian period, enshrining the three Hachiman deities including Emperor Ojin. As the chief tutelary shrine of Bungo Province, it has gathered faith from the samurai classes to common people. It has especially deep connections with the Genji clan, and it is said that Minamoto no Yoritomo and the Ashikaga clan also revered it. Within the grounds stands an ancient camphor tree centuries old, bearing witness to the solemnity of the sacred space. As an ancient shrine that has protected the city of Oita through the ages, many visitors continue to come, offering prayers with various wishes.
