Manmyoji Temple (Daijoin Manmyoji) is a Buddhist temple of the Omuro-ha branch of Shingon Buddhism, located in Unzen, Obama-cho, Unzen City, Nagasaki Prefecture. Its mountain name is Unzanzan. The principal image is Dainichi Nyorai (Mahavairocana), while a five-meter statue of Shakyamuni Buddha stands in the precincts and is open to all visitors. According to tradition, the temple was founded in 749 CE (Tempyo-shoho 1) by the monk Gyoki. It flourished as a center of Shugendo mountain asceticism on the sacred peak of Mt. Unzen, and became more popular as a pilgrimage site alongside the development of Unzen Onsen during the Edo period.
