History

Byakko

Mitsutera, officially Shippozan Mitsutera, is a head temple of the Omuro branch of Shingon Buddhism along Midosuji in Chuo Ward, Osaka. By tradition it was founded by the monk Gyoki under imperial decree of Emperor Shomu. The principal image is the Eleven-faced Kannon. Beloved as Mittera-san and the Kannon of Minami, the temple has long served as a spiritual anchor for Osaka residents. In 2023 the main hall was relocated as part of a joint redevelopment with Tokyo Tatemono, creating an integrated temple-hotel-commercial complex that bridges tradition and modernity.
