History
Sumiyoshi Taisha is the head shrine of approximately 2,300 Sumiyoshi shrines throughout Japan and is counted among Osaka's most ancient and venerable shrines. According to tradition, it was founded after Empress Jingū safely returned from her campaign in Silla through the divine protection of the three Sumiyoshi deities. With over 1,800 years of history, it has long been revered as the shrine of the sea and maritime safety. The distinctive Sumiyoshi-zukuri architectural style is designated a National Treasure, and its beauty captivates many visitors. As one of the Kansai region's foremost shrines, it welcomes over 2 million visitors during New Year celebrations and is affectionately known as 'Sumiyoshi-san'.

Tips
