History
Otori Taisha is an ancient shrine revered as the First Shrine of Izumi Province. It enshrines Yamato Takeru no Mikoto as its principal kami, and its founding is said to date back to the mythological age. Affectionately known as "Otori-san," it is particularly famous for the Tori no Ichi held in November. The grounds become filled with activity as many people seeking business prosperity gather to purchase auspicious ornaments such as bamboo rakes. Through the magnificent divine virtue of Yamato Takeru no Mikoto, it is believed to grant the benefits of good fortune and the removal of misfortune, and has gathered faith since ancient times as a shrine of proper standing.
