Jindoji is a temple of the Shingon Chisan sect nestled deep in the mountains of Yamashiro-cho, Kizugawa City, Kyoto Prefecture. Known by the mountain name Kitayoshino-san, its principal image is Zaou Gongen, a syncretic deity associated with mountain ascetic practice. Tucked away in a remote valley, the temple has long been revered as a sacred site for esoteric Buddhist practice, where worshippers come to stand before the presence of Zaou Gongen and reflect in contemplative silence.
