History

Tamino Shrine stands in Tsukuda, Nishiyodogawa Ward, Osaka. The enshrined deities are the three Sumiyoshi kami — Sokotsutsu-no-o, Nakatstutsu-no-o, and Uwatsutsu-no-o — along with Empress Jingu. The Sumiyoshi deities are widely revered as protectors of seafaring and poetry, making their presence in this coastal Tsukuda land deeply fitting. The area was once called Tamino Island, a gathering place for those who made their livelihood through fishing and water transport. Through the Edo period, the shrine served as the tutelary deity of Tsukuda village in Settsu Province, drawing the faith of fishermen and sailors.
