Kusutsu Hachiman Gū is enshrined in the Kusutsu area of Nishi Ward, Hiroshima City, and is the Hachiman deity. This area flourished long ago as the estuary of the Ota River, and has been cherished as a spiritual support for the people of Kusutsu who prospered through water transportation. While Hachiman is known as a warrior deity, for the people of the region it is a familiar deity protecting their daily lives. As a shrine that has walked alongside Kusutsu's development, it continues to be treasured by local residents.
