History

Byakko

Founded in 960 (Tentoku 3) when the scholar-deity Sugawara no Michizane was enshrined here, this shrine is also known as Hagiwara Tenjin. Worshippers have long gathered to pray for academic success and passing examinations. The original main hall was built as Hagiwara-yama Tenmangu in the early Edo period. In the late Meiji era, seven neighboring shrines were merged into this one, expanding its parish significantly. Nine deities including Amenohihinomikoto are enshrined here, continuing to protect students and families.
