History

Byakko

Atsuta Jingu is a shrine of particularly high prestige in Japan, enshrining the Kusanagi no Tsurugi, one of the three sacred treasures. After Yamato Takeru no Mikoto passed away at this location, his consort Miyasuhime no Mikoto enshrined the sacred sword, which is said to be the beginning of this shrine. Long cherished as "Atsuta-san," there is also a tradition that Oda Nobunaga offered prayers for victory before the Battle of Okehazama. Within the expansive grounds stands a great camphor tree over one thousand years old, truly enveloped in a sacred atmosphere befitting a divine realm.
