History
Atsuta Jingu is a shrine of particularly high prestige in Japan, enshrining the Kusanagi no Tsurugi, one of the three sacred treasures. After Yamato Takeru no Mikoto passed away at this location, his consort Miyasuhime no Mikoto enshrined the sacred sword, which is said to be the beginning of this shrine. Long cherished as "Atsuta-san," there is also a tradition that Oda Nobunaga offered prayers for victory before the Battle of Okehazama. Within the expansive grounds stands a great camphor tree over one thousand years old, truly enveloped in a sacred atmosphere befitting a divine realm.

Tips
御朱印は境内で3種(本宮・別宮八劔宮・上知我麻神社)いただけますが、熱田神宮では「御朱印」ではなく「御神印(ごしんいん)」と呼ぶのが正式です。
本宮の奥にある「一之御前神社」は熱田大神の荒魂を祀る最奥の聖域で、平成24年から一般参拝が可能になった場所です。本宮参拝後は足を延ばすのがおすすめです。
正参道と東参道の交差点に立つ高さ8mの「佐久間燈籠」は日本三大灯籠のひとつですが、周囲の巨木に紛れて素通りされがちです。
