History
Osu Kannon is revered as a representative Kannon of Nagoya, beloved by many people. Formally known as Shinpuku-ji Hokkei-in, it is affectionately known as "Kannon-sama." Originally located in Osu, Gifu, it was moved to its present location by order of Tokugawa Ieyasu, a piece of history that defines it. Positioned at the center of Osu Shopping Street, it is cherished as a Kannon of the common people. Particularly known for blessings of warding off misfortune and business prosperity, it receives deep faith from local merchants. Various events are held within the grounds, and throughout the year it is bustling with many visitors, a vibrant sacred place.

節分の豆まきでは「鬼は外」は禁句です。寺宝の鬼面が観音菩薩の化身とされているため、掛け声は「福は内」のみで行われます。
境内奥には「本朝三文庫」と呼ばれる文庫があり、国宝指定の古事記写本を含む約一万五千巻を所蔵しています。京都・仁和寺、和歌山・根来寺と並ぶ重要文庫です。
毎月18日・28日は境内で骨董市が開催され、通常より混雑します。この日に参拝する場合は午前中早めが比較的空いています。
