Sarumaru Jinja is a small Shinto shrine located in Ujitawara-cho, Tsuzuki District, Kyoto Prefecture, classified as an unranked shrine (mukakulsha) in the old social hierarchy. It is widely known for its remarkable efficacy in prayer against cancer and tumors (kobu-tori, or lump removal). Worshippers from across the Kinki region come to pray for recovery from illness and the healing of growths. The enshrined deity is traditionally identified as Sarumaru Dayu, a poet listed among the Thirty-six Poetry Immortals. Votive stones called kobu-ishi are dedicated on the grounds by those praying for healing. Though little-known outside devotional circles, the shrine draws a steady stream of visitors seeking its renowned curative blessings.
