Mozaemon Jizo-son Sennichi-do
📍 Gunma, Minakami · 491 Tsukiyono, Minakami-machi, Tone-gun, Gunma
History
This Jizo statue is related to a story about a man named Mozaemon, known as a protector of commoners during the Edo period. He was executed for punishing a corrupt official who oppressed the people. Legend has it that even after his head was severed three times, he continued to live. The Sennichi-do enshrines this Mozaemon Jizo-son, and many people visit to pray for longevity, healing of illnesses, and childbearing. It stands quietly in the mountains, as if silently listening to the wishes of the people. I was also deeply impressed by the compassion of this Jizo statue.
