Koushiji is a Jodo Shinshu Honganji-ha temple located on Ikuchi Island, founded in 1936 by Koushiji Koushizou. Known as the "Temple of Mother" for embodying filial devotion to one's mother, it is famous for its beautiful complex of buildings expressing the Pure Land Paradise. Often called the "Nikko of the West," its ornately decorated buildings are as if the world of the Pure Land has been recreated on earth. In particular, the "Mirai-Kokoro no Oka" (Future Heart Hill) is a sacred site where contemporary art and Buddhism merge, bringing peace to the hearts of many visitors.
