History

Byakko

Hatai Jinja is an ancient shrine situated in the Isshoiji area, famous as a place connected to the legendary swordmaster Miyamoto Musashi. It is remembered as the setting for the 'Isshoiji Shitaomatsu Duel' between Musashi and the Yoshioka clan during the Keichou era. Musashi is said to have prayed at this shrine for victory before the duel, and relics connected to Musashi can be found within the grounds. Also long revered as a shrine for ward-off (hojo), it attracts many visitors at life's turning points and when beginning new endeavors. Though situated in a quiet residential area, it is a special place where one can feel the romance of history.
