Shorinj is a Zen temple situated in Kyoto's eastern mountains as a subsidiary of Kennin-ji Temple. According to tradition, it was founded by Bukkoku Kokushi, the opening master of Nanzen-ji. As a practice hall for seated meditation, one may observe monks engaging in earnest spiritual discipline in silence. The timeless serenity and solemn dignity of this ancient temple cleanse the hearts of all visitors. Guided by the power of Fudo Myoo enshrined as the principal image, devotees find obstacles removed and happiness within reach. In this corner of Higashiyama, the footsteps of those seeking Zen enlightenment never cease.
