History

Byakko

Ujigami Jinja is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site as Japan's oldest existing shrine architecture. The main hall, dating to the late Heian period, is designated a National Treasure, and its beauty continues to enchant us across a thousand years of time. It enshrines Emperor Ojin and his imperial son, and has long maintained deep ties with the imperial house. The Kirinomizu spring within the grounds is one of the seven famous waters of Uji and continues to flow pure and clear to this day. Within the serene grounds, one can feel the passage of eternal history.
