History

Byakko

Nashiki Shrine, elevated upon Teramachi Street, is an ancient sanctuary dedicated to the water kami, blessing all who seek its divine grace. Symbolizing the abundant spring waters of Karasuma, it continues to bestow pure water upon Kyoto's people. Pilgrims seek this sanctuary especially during hot seasons, drawn by the cooling blessings of the water deity's gift. Ancient pear trees, aged with the passage of centuries, gently watch over those who pray beneath their branches. Along Kamigyō Ward's Teramachi Street, this rare sanctuary continues to shine brilliantly, bestowing the refreshing blessing of water and cool comfort upon all who have sought its protection since ancient times.
