History

Byakko

Yaei Jinja stands on Mount Hachiman in Kishiwada, Osaka Prefecture, and is an ancient shrine once known as Ushigami Jinja. In 1580, Susanoo-no-Mikoto was formally enshrined and the shrine was renamed Yaei Jinja. In 1907, shrines from Haruki-mura and Isogami-mura were merged into it, and in 1915 Isogami Yaei Jinja was also incorporated, making it the general tutelary shrine of the area. The shrine is one of the destinations of the celebrated Kishiwada Danjiri Festival, a Gion-faith procession known for its dynamic wooden floats. It continues to serve as a spiritual pillar for the festival and as a guardian of the local community.
