Shigain Monzeki is a Tendai Buddhist temple located in Sakamoto, Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, serving as the main lodging (sogaribozo) of Hieizan Enryakuji. The principal object of worship is Yakushi Nyorai (Medicine Buddha). As a monzeki temple where the Tendai Zasu (chief abbot) has resided, it holds the highest rank among Tendai temples. During the early Edo period, Prince Gyonen, son of Emperor Gomizunoo, entered the temple, thereby firmly establishing its status as a monzeki. Situated at the foot of Mount Hiei in Sakamoto, this prestigious temple with deep imperial ties continues to preserve its sacred tradition to this day.
