History

Byakko

In 1063, Minamoto no Yoriyoshi, celebrating his victory in the Former Nine Years' War, invited the deity from Iwashimizu Hachimangu and established this shrine at Tsuboi, the home base of the Kawachi Genji clan. Enshrined are Homudawake-no-Mikoto (Emperor Ojin), Hime Okami, and Empress Jingu. It is said that Minamoto no Yoshiie (Hachimantaro Yoshiie) underwent his coming-of-age ceremony here, and the Well of Yoshiie's First Bath remains in the grounds today. As one of the three Genji shrines alongside Rokusono-o Shrine in Kyoto and Tada Shrine in Kawanishi, it continues to embody the pride of the warrior lineage.
