History

Byakko

Horikoshi Jinja is an ancient shrine situated at the foot of Chausuyama, said to have been founded by Prince Shōtoku at the same time as the establishment of Shitennoji. Affectionately known as 'Horikoshi-san,' it is particularly famous as 'the shrine that grants one wish in a lifetime.' It enshrines Emperor Sushun and other members of the imperial family, making it a shrine of distinguished rank. Within the grounds stands a camphor tree of several hundred years of age, and its divine appearance purifies the hearts of many visitors. There is a deep faith that wishes granted through sincere prayer at this shrine will surely be fulfilled—one wish per lifetime.
